Bombay Sapphire & The V&A

Bombay Sapphire and the V&A's Summer Camp event are collaborating with designer Giles Miller to create martini-style glasses made from card, complimented by a ‘log cabin-esque’ cardboard encased bar. The bar will serve a unique Bombay Sapphire Summer Gin Punch cocktail and the V&A Summer Camp will also feature six tents located throughout the venue showcasing displays from other designers. The main feature of the event is a communal Campfire tent, where visitors can enjoy poetry and folk music.

Desigual Kiss Party- Tonight!

Get those teeth polished, lips glossed and mouths freshened for Desigual's Kiss Tour party tonight at Potters Field between 6pm- 8.30pm. The London Kiss Party is based on successful Barcelona fashion brand Desigual’s Kiss Parties, which have taken place over the last three years in Barcelona and Madrid. So far over 10,000 people have taken part by sharing a kiss at the events.

London participants can collect free tickets from a branch of Desigual on Regent Street or in Westfield, which will then be exchanged for a limited edition t-shirt. The event will see entertainment from Guilty Pleasures and Moshi Moshi Djs while the crowd will be encouraged to celebrate kisses; a universal symbol of love and harmony. These are values the brand wants to help share with consumers through these events.

The London Kiss Party is the second in the tour, following on from a successful event in Paris at the beginning of the month. You can see the photos on the brand's Flickr page. The tour moves onto Berlin in August before finishing off back in Madrid, Spain.

RPM have provided production consultancy along with agency EML.

It's Good To Be Blunt

This rather candidly comical card was created by BluntCards-a website that revels in an impolite, matter-0f-fact sense of humour. A true far cry from the fluffly rabbits and sparkling smiles of Hallmark or MoonPig. I think we like Blunt better!

Melt Down

This campaign's purpose was to sensitise children in India about the perils of Global Warming. To do so, special ice creams were created in association with Rollicks where lifeless polar creatures etched on the stick got revealed as the ice cream melted. It also revealed a message ‘When polar ice melts, they die. Stop global warming.’

I Met The Walrus

For those of you who haven't seen this incredible animation, it's well worth a watch. Directed by Josh Rashkin, produced by Jerry Levitan and illustrated by James Braithwaite and Alex Kurina, the film is based on an interview of John Lennon by Jerry Levitan in 1969.

The Mother Bag

Orbiter- Interactive Sound Equipment

I'd like to welcome you to the Oribter.

Now to explain. In this installation inspired by reaching for the stars and the musical patterns within the universe, people are encouraged to lay down beneath the huge screen and make a small gesture, for example pointing upwards. This then creates projections of images onto the screen (the stars) as well as wierd and wonderful musical sounds that accompany them. Each version of the Orbiter features various scenes with different graphics, noises and behaviour.

Some create an illusionary nightsky firmament, playing more melodic or ambient sounds whilst others experiment with the possibilities of graphical abstraction and rough synths, allowing you to even play drum’n bass-like sounds.

The music is played on a scale of concentric circles, visible in some of the scenes, with higher tones on the larger, basses on the smaller circles. The bigger you let a star grow before you pull back your hand to insert it into orbit, the louder it plays. Like the stars orbit on the large ceiling screen above the player, the surround sound orbits in the room on up to 10 high-tone-channels, supported by a bass box and a solid bourne sound speaker underneath the player´s couch.

Dreamy Design

Is it just us, or is this the best thing you've seen on a Tuesday morning? A great example of innovative design-sadly not avaliable in Ikea!

RPM's Team Prepares For The Race Of Their Lives..

Six rather nervous RPM staff- mainly Harri, Adam, Mike, Grant, Michelle and Joe will soon be attempting major cycling challenge the Etape du Tour in France.

Entering its eighteenth year, the Etape du Tour has established itself as the most grueling yet gratifying cyclo‐sportive events in Europe. Over 8,500 amateur cyclists are offered the chance to ride the same mountainous terrain the professional riders will conquer four days later in their renowned Tour de France.

In order to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Tour de France’s first foray into the Pyrenees, this year’s ride will cover the invigorating Stage 18 route. Stretching over 108 miles from the foothills of the Pyrenees to its highest peak at the Col du Tourmalet. See picture above.

They've all been training rigorously so we're left to say...

Bonne chance mes amis!!

Elephant .V. Vadar

If you live in London, I'm fairly sure you'll have seen atleast one of the 250 elephants placed around the capital this summer, each one individually designed and crafted by various artists and designers including Jack Vetriano, Matthew Williamson and Jeff Hoare. With a host of celebrity supporters and top of the range PR, the Elephant Parade has proved to be extremely successful in raising awareness. In fact, after a recent auction, a grand total of £70,000 was raised towards the charity ElephantFamily.org.

Another similar project that delves slightly more into the dark side of art is 'The Vadar Project'. Again, 100 artists and designers customized replicas of the Darth Vader helmet transforming the mask of the menacing villain into individual works of art.

Unlike the elephants though, this exhibition has been touring for 4 years and is soon to come to an end in Freeman's Auction House in Philedelphia. Curated and produced by Dov Kelemer and Sarah Jo Marks of DKE Toys, the Vader Project is on view at Freeman’s from July 5-9, followed by the auction on July 10. The show also includes a vibrant limited-edition catalog featuring full-color photographs of each helmet.

Sophie Peters Reviews The Saatchi Gallery

I recently visited the Saatchi Gallery and its newly opened exhibition, ‘Newspeak’. I found the exhibition easy to discover and constantly exciting, with a range of sculpture, painting, and installations.

Having never been to the Saatchi before, it is now one of my favourite galleries in London. Set in a beautiful location near Sloane Square, it is just the right size without being over-whelming.

One of my favourite artists exhibiting was Hurvin Anderson. I especially liked his Untitled (Black Street) and Peter’s Sitters 3 featured above. I also loved the cultural references in his work and use of colour, placed upon the canvas with thick expanses of paint.

Another interesting artist was Sigrid Holmwood who subverts traditional scenes of peasant life by painting in psychedelic fluorescent paint. The use of this medium must be a growing trend, as at D&AD New Blood last week I noticed it was also used in one of the students work.

The most eye-catching part of the show however, was a work by Scott King; a huge screen-print of Cher in the style of the Che Guevara graphic. Despite drawing the most attention, it was in fact not a very succcessful piece. What was a fantastic piece of graphic design on his 2001 cover of Sleazenation lacked context in the gallery space.

Newspeak is well worth the visit. It caters for many tastes, and there were quite a few pieces there I would love to have on my wall! I think this exhibition is good for viewing a wide variety of work, especially if you often go to galleries and find the work you see bleak and pretentious. The exhibit is full of colour and thought-provoking pieces.

All in all, a good place to expand your opinions on British Art Now.

Aquarium or Mexico?

Jose Cuervo and Club Aquarium have joined forces to create a ‘Jose Cuervo’ branded space within the top London venue; the capitals only club with a swimming pool! We've installed a Mexican feel that fits nicely with the Cuervo brand including distressed paint effects, Tequila bottle chandeliers and lanterns. A little piece of Mexico in the city. Check it out!

City Boy Swims

A harbour bath has been created in Copenhagen to allow residents to go for a swim during the day. The baths offer an urban harbour landscape, dry docks and a pier.

As a terraced landscape it completes the transition between land and water allowing people to go for a swim in the middle of the city.
